I saw the news footage about MJ's death on Friday afternoon. In the hotel lobby which I stayed in KL over the past weekend, to be exact. I was totally shocked. And I kept pointing at the plasma screen hinged on the wall and went "Omg omg omg..." I bet the couple beside me got a shock, but soon their eyes were fixated onto the screen as well.

It was so sudden and unbelievable. Truth is, I have never been a great fan of MJ, but I do recognise his talents and he is defo worthy of the title - King of Pop. Nevermind his bizarre outlook, the fact that a black can be so fair, and his plastic surgery, and him trying to "dangle" his youngest son in the hotel in Berlin, and child molestation accusation, and the list goes on... That aside, we are really talking about a musical genius here. No less..

His passing is definitely a loss. Our loss..

To everyone... Here is MJ and his signature Moon Walk, the first ever Moon Walk he performed in 1983 (which I wasn't even born yet).

... marks the first day of my second year into the workforce. To be exact, in Nielsen.

Time flies. It seems like I just went to the interview yesterday. The past year wasn't exactly easy to get by too. I have put in much effort, long hours, weekends, and not forgetting my youth and soul that comes along with it.

Is this worth it? This seems to be the question that I have in mind quite a bit lately. Ultimately, I am giving myself 2 years in Nielsen, to see how I can stretch myself and how much further I can go and grow. 1 year down, 1 more year to go...

Yes, I'm Back in the Scene...

After being "kicked" and "boo-ed" by my dearest friends.. I've decided to move my fingers... to blog.. Am seriously so demotivated! Haha..

Well well, I think I haven't posted anything for 2 months. Lots of things happened though. Let me post everything at one go!

First up, the bf's birthday. We were at La Villa's. A place that I chanced upon while I was on the way to Zouk. Haha.. The atmosphere and the alfresco dining concept totally blew me away. It was such a cool place!!

We settled for the seafood grill, which was $30++ per person and it's free flow. You name it they have it. From beef, to chicken, to lamb, and even salmon, prawns, and more.. The food's alright. Not really spectacularly good, but the ambience made up for it!

Part 2 of the boyfriend's birthday celebration was with my cousins and some friends at Bar Stop off Killiney. It's been a while since the gang met up. And I think everyone had fun. We all got the bf a new Prada wallet. Hope he likes it! (: *I have a huge hole burnt in my pocket!)

So there you have it. The boyfriend has reached his quarter-life crisis. And I know this is terribly belated, Happy belated birthday once again, Hun!

Anyways, we were at Ben & Jerry's and we had pasta, burger and sausages (which is Miss Lim's favourite by the way)

My colleague, Melvyn's quarter-life crisis. We were out on a Friday afternoon, to celebrate his birthday at Hot Stones at Clarke Quay.

Just in case you didn't know, Clarke Quay is having $15 nett set lunches promotions at almost every store. And they offer complimentary parking from 12 to 3pm as well. Well, I could understand that because Clarke Quay in the afternoon is deadly quiet, a far cry from the burstling night life after 9pm every night!

The second installment of Melvyn's birthday celebration was at Settler's Cafe (his idea, boring!!) and chilling out at Forbidden City at Clarke Quay (Woohoo!!)

I think the staff there could not stand us because we kept bombarding him with tons of questions and we eventually discarded the game because it doesn't make any sense! Haha..

Super glad that the 2 hours ended!

My First Mambo Since I've Started Working

Shiyou and I finally went to Mambo night! Our very first one since we started working about 10 months ago. Oh boy, the crowd at Zouk is so young. We feel like lao aunties. Dbl O's crowd was better, in that we feel more at ease when we were there... (:

We only took a few shots (pun intended) that night. And all of the photos were taken in Dbl O. To continue my quest for alcohol, I had 5 shots, 1 beer, 1 screwdriver and 1 vodka ribena. Thereafter, I had to run to ladies to "let the water out", and we were ready to go to Zouk!!

Shiyou, next time, you gotta drink more ok? Make your trip to Dbl O more worthwhile!

Meet up with my boys!

It's been so long since we last met up! By we, I mean Zhen Xiang, Samuel and me! I miss hanging out with them so badly, that I initiated a meet-up! (:

See.. the last time we met was eons ago..

Yeah, that was how long ago lah! This time round, we first met for movies at The Cathay. But even before that, Zhen Xiang came to pick Samuel and me up from our houses! Rocks to have a buddy who drives! Yay!

Initially we thought "Wolverine" was airing, but no it hasn't. So then we caught the unborn.

Sidetrack: As the movie poster above suggests, The Unborn is a horror flick and we just couldn't stand the movie-goers in the cinema! Case in point: some teenagers who were seated in front were screaming non-stop when the ghost appears. *fucking irritating* Plus, I swear I got a shock more from their screamings than the actual ghost itself.

Then, when the spirit possesses someone, the possessed person's head will actually turn 180 degrees (i.e. upside down). Not really scary but more of gruesome. Then got one chao ah lian behind us kept going "Dom ba leh tou" (i.e. upside down head) which was again, fucking irritating! Towards the end of the show, she actually had to cheek to chide the girls in the front row and she went "Wah lao eh, 前面的人si beh kao peh lor..." It was so unglam, we actually felt embarrassed for her.. What's going on with our younger generation?!

After watching the show, we went to Manhattan's for dinner and then to The Wine Company at Dempsey's for some wine, duh~

At Timbre with Colleagues

Some weeks ago, my colleagues and I were at Timbre at the substation. (Haha.. backlogged again!) It was an unusual gang, cos the regional folks, Retail Measurement guys and Consumer Research peeps (which I am from) got together for the first time. It was nice mingling with them. And the atmosphere was great. Just chilling, talking and listening to the live band. I love it!

A rather simple affair with beer, wine, pizzas.. Oh man, I can so feel my beer belly bulging out already! ):

It was a nice mix of people from all around the world - Singapore, Indonesia, US, Australia, South Korea... And we managed to sabotaged Mike to go onstage. It was his birthday, and we got the emcees to invite him onstage to dance to the tune of "Dancing Queen". Everyone just kept laughing at the birthday boy. It was so funny!

Then, we headed to Chijmes cos the boys wanted to catch soccer match. Soon, I got bored and headed home with some of the girls. But still, it was a fun-filled Saturday! I am sure there's gonna be more of such activities to come. My colleague is planning a karaoke session and/ or a BBQ session really soon. Can't wait!

Granny's 70+(?) birthday..

My bad.. I don't know how old my granny is this year.. In any case, it has been a long-living tradition that all of my family members would get together in a restaurant and have a sumptuous 10-course dinner, followed by a cake-cutting session. And ah ma will give all her grandchildren $100 ang pow each! *woot!*

This year, ah ma's birthday "bash" was held at a Chinese restaurant called "Taste Paradise", located along Mosque Street. The food there is superb! I think each table costs $800++ and we had 5 tables! (: This year's birthday dinner was strangely on a Friday evening. So right after work, I lugged my laptop and rushed down to Chinatown.

And since a few years ago, it has been a habit that some cousins will actually chip in and get granny a decent birthday present. Over the past few years, we have given her Biotherm skin care products, fragrances and lipsticks, Goldheart necklace, clothes, Fendi pouch. And this year, we got her Coach bag and coin purse!!

Some weeks ago, the cousins, the boyfriend and MY MAMA (yes, my mom) and I went out for fishhead steamboat along Balestier Road. Not cheap can? The bill came up to be $150++. Then, we went to a random karaoke pub located at Serangoon North Road..

Look at the huge "barrel" of beer that we ordered. Coincidentally, after this fateful night, I have been drinking over the weekends ever since.. Bad for my tummy, I know!

This is Wenda, or Da-ge/ Da-ling as my mom would affectionately call him! Haha..

I've got a new phone... (:

Yes, finally! I got a new phone - Nokia e71 that is. And yes, Kai Kiang I have finally joined the club. Anyways, the blue and red one that you told me the other time is Nokia e63. Pretty much similar to our phones, but e63 has lesser functionality. And is cheaper too. But the case is plastic, unlike our sleek *super chio* metallic case..

And so, I bade goodbye to my old trusty Nokia 7610, which has served me for 4 freaking long years. It has saw me through my university days, and flew to Bangkok and Taiwan with me. I will miss you, RIP. But seriously, I NEED to keep up with times lah. Can you imagine me bringing the old phone to meet clients? I think I would be a laughing stock. In fact, for the past 6 months, I have been very conscious when I wipped out my phone in public. Cos even uncles and aunties use better phones than me! (:

Mraz, I'm YOURS....

5th March was the day I have been looking forward to for a long time. Just cos its Jason Mraz's concert. Yep, in Singapore Indoor Stadium with air-conditioning and not the Sing Fest at Fort Canning Park last year.

I was totally anticipating this concert, and have been on the lookout for ticket sales since late last year. Then one fine day, I managed to tour jasonmraz.com and found out that there's gonna be a concert and I managed to but the tickets the day they were released. And when I approach the counter staff, promotional materials (i.e. brochures) were not even printed yet. It was a "quiet" affair but tickets were wiped out in a matter of hours..

When we finally arrived at our seats, we were greeted by this very nice fan! And guess what, the handles of our fans were broken. I reckoned some evil people swopped their faulty ones with us. In turn, mighty youyou swopped our faulty ones with others and we ended up with new ones!

And oh, did I mention that the concert is packed with familiar faces? I have seen friends, ex-schoolmates and even some celebrities. Not the main point though. Cos all of us were there to see the guy - JASON!

In any case, all the photos taken above are taken prior to the start of the concert. The moment he is up onstage, I was up on my feet and grooving to the tunes.. Superb experience, I tell ya! The songs that he delivered way surpassed the youtube videos and his CDs, because it was all so spontaneous and he was as smooth as my ass... Haha.. (:

Anyways, I totally lost it when he sang my favourite song "A beautiful mess".. I was screaming, singing, touched, all at the same time.. He was so sensual! And the duet "Lucky" was sang by Jason and our very own Joi Chua. At the end of the song, they hugged and I guess everyone around me could hear me screaming "lucky bitch".. Haha.. Not forgetting "I'm yours", the crowd went totally insane! (: (: Other hits includes "Make it mine", "You and I", "The remedy", "Dynamo of volition", "Butterfly", "Mr Curiosity", etc....

On the other hand, dear youyou seems a little reserved and quiet that night. Maybe seems to me because I was like a siao char boh! But I am sure the bf and youyou enjoyed the concert as much as I did. In fact, I am still sufferring from Jason withdrawal symptoms now.. (:

The ticket concert was totally worth every penny. But too bad, it was a little too short. About 1.5 hours. Would have been even better if it was longer. But the crowd was young and spontaneous too! I enjoyed it tremendously!

What a piece of news to start off a Monday..

SINGAPORE: A Nanyang Technological University (NTU) spokesman had confirmed that a final year student from the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering stabbed a professor Monday morning.

The professor at the engineering faculty was in his office when the student stabbed him with a knife in the back.

Prof Chan Kap Luk, a Singaporean in his 40s, is said to be the supervisor of the fourth year student in a project.

After stabbing the professor, the male student — who was in his 20s — slit his wrists and jumped down a building at the engineering block.

His body was found at the bottom of the building, which was about five storeys high. He died from his injuries.

Prof Chan received medical treatment for cuts and is in stable condition.

NTU said both parties’ next—of—kin had been notified.

NTU’s president, Su Guaning, rallied the university community together and pledged to help the families of the professor and student.

He said the matter will be investigated thoroughly. The university has mobilised its counselling professionals to help.

Dr Su said: "The university is deeply shocked and saddened by what has happened... The university community will rally together at this difficult time and do our utmost to help the student’s family, the professor and his family, and those traumatised by the incident."

I seriously think that NTU can do away with such unwanted attention.... ):

Nielsen Day 2009

Our very own Nielsen Day, aka D&D for some companies, was such a blast! I enjoyed every single bit of it! It is my very first time attending it, and I was really excited because I did not know what to expect initially.

This year's Nielsen Day was held at a function room in The Legends, Fort Canning Park. And since Fort Canning is rather "foresty", the theme to this year's party is SAFARI! Sounds fun, isn't it? And as part of a long-standing history, Nielsen newbies are supposed to put up an item on stage every Nielsen Day. This meant that I was not spared!

Ok, firstly, our table had to come up with something to suit the theme. After much discussion, we decided on getting safari-inspired balloons and named our table "SAFAR-OON"..

Ok, and so the event started at 10am. And one of the emcee, Rina, managed to get 3 big shots (Managing Director & President positions, no less) to go onstage to dance. At 10am in the morning, ok?! OMG!

They were all so sporting, I love Ang mohs man.. So cool about everything! (:

Anyways, the newbies did put up some shows. The Retail Measurement Services (RMS) colleagues did a skit, Consumer Research Services (CRS) - my department, did a rendition of "Don't forget the lyrics!" Last but not least, the regional team did the most creative thing by featuring dance moves together with songs to represent some countries. For instance, they did a bollywood dance in India, my fave Thai hit song in Thailand, and a Korean song called "Nobody" by Korean pop group Wonder girls to represent Korea. And guess what, they did "Mambo Jumbo" to represent Singapore. I was so happy, I tell ya! (but I think the beer that I had also kicked in lah!) *I MISS MAMBO NIGHTS!*

An Impromptu Karaoke Session...

... right after my PPG meet-up.

I felt like a Wonderwoman with an incredible abundance of energy on a Friday night! Cousin Von and Suda-san rang me up, asking me to join them for an impromptu singing session. So I flew down after bidding my girls goodbye and sang to our hearts content for the next 2 hours.

Essentially, I played the brightest light bulb that night, but I am sure my cousin wouldn't mind! Here's Von and Suda!

Anyways, Suda is hyper active the whole night and could not stop singing Japanese songs! He had to stand up and sang as if he was holding a 10 million audience-concert. Click here to see actual footage!

Eventually, I managed to sing some Cantonese and Mandarin songs too. My aim now is to master nice Cantonese hits so that I can flaunt it in KTV sessions! Haha.. That said, Suda managed to sing one full hokkien song called "海海人生", all thanks to the 汉语拼音. But still, it was hilarious to see a Japanese singing a song as if he was tone deaf, and has absolutely no idea what he was singing to in the entire song. (; We KO-ed at 1 plus and I reached home at 2am that day! What a fruitful Friday the 13th!

WeiShi is 2.5...

My dearest WS, aren't you honoured that I named this post title after you?

Well, as to why my dear ah lim is 2.5, it shall always remain a secret within PPGs. And friends don't judge... (: I am really happy to hear these 2 girlfriends in my life. You know the term "bosom friends"? I am glad I have these 2 fine ladies are my bosom friends and I need not search further for my bosom friends. *lovess*

To begin with, I am sorry for "tricking" my girls to Novena because it is near my office place. But I guess the dinner at Square 2 and the coffee session at Starbucks, United Square was great?! (; Ok, PPG had dinner at Ayam Penyet Ria. Smashed Chicken was economical and yummy! Hope my recommendation was good.

And we received a ~~weird-looking~~ sweet key chain from WeiShi, which she bought from Genting for us.

Thanks for the thought girl. But you really shouldn't have.. Haha..

Then right after dinner, the girls went for a fast and furious shopping trip at Novena area. Dear Katie bought a blazer at Cotton On for 49, and I bought a pair of heels from Charles and Keith at $13.10, after a 70% discount. Woo-hoo! I heart heels!

Thereafter, we headed to Harry's to chill out but due to the disappointing crowd plus a weirdo in suit drinking beer alone, we moved to Starbucks instead.

Hmm, a pretty decent film I've watched in a while. In a nutshell, Benjamin Button (played by Mr Angelina Jolie) is different from everyone else. He was born with the appearance and physical limitations of a man who is 86 years old. If my memory does not fail me, the doctor said baby Benjamin was born with failed lungs and his skin has lost all its elasticity.

It turned out to be that internally, Benjamin grew up like everyone else (i.e. learning to speak, read, count, etc..), but eternally, his exterior is the exact opposite. He started off looking extremely old, but grew younger as days passed.

I gotta admit that I was disturbed by some of the scenes. Look at the picture below for a perfect example. Benjamin looks really old, but is probably in his teens (as seen by his growing muscles).. Looks pretty sick to me..

Oxymoron

Fast forward, it was interesting to watch how Benjamin or rather Brad grew younger. And it was also sweet that Benjamin found his true love - Daisy. He met Daisy when they were 5, when Daisy was a young girl, and Ben looked like a old men.

However, many decades later, their paths crossed again when Ben's 49 and Daisy's 43. They fell in love and had a baby daughter.

However, Ben knew that he could not be THE father to his daughter, and decided to leave them before she could remember her dad - the ultimate sacrifice. And Ben could not bear Daisy to take care of 2 kids at the end of the day. So he left. And just when I thought Brad looked the youngest in his 30s/ 20s that he possibly could look, the make-up crew from Hollywood took me by surprise!

But as the story progressed, Ben has gotten dementia (in his 5 year old exterior), and slowly he could not walk as he became a toddler, and died in Daisy's arm as a baby, with supple and soft skin.

It is a touching story, as Daisy and Ben found their true love and Daisy chose to stay by him even though he was abnormal. In my opinion, Daisy expressed her love for Ben by taking care of him when he was growing younger towards the end of his days. And Ben did so by leaving Daisy and their daughter so that they could find a normal father for their child.

Go watch this show. It feels great to be touched! (: Also, as quoted from the boyfriend as he heard over the radio, the Flying Dutchman and Glenn Ong says this is one show that girls would definitely like, as they get to see Brad looking younger and more suave, and Cate becoming an old hag. (;

SKorean granny fails driving test 771 times

SEOUL (AFP) - - A dogged South Korean grandmother has failed her driving test 771 times, police said Thursday, but a local newspaper reported she will keep trying.

The 68-year-old, identified only by her last name Cha, has taken the test almost every working day since 2005 in the southwestern city of Jeonju. She failed again Monday for the 771st time.

"It was a record-breaking number here," Choi Yong-Cheol, a police sergeant supervising the test in the city's Deokjingu district, told AFP.

"I wonder if she will try it again for a 772nd time."

The Korea Times said Cha will in fact be back for another attempt.

Choi said that Cha cannot pass the preliminary written section of the test, averaging scores of 30-50 whereas the pass mark is 60 out of 100.

Local media said that Cha sells food and household items door to door at apartment complexes, carrying the items in a handcart, but wants to get a car for her business.

Police estimate she has spent almost five million won (3,600 dollars) to take the written test, with each test costing 6,000 won in addition to other expenses.

"I feel sorry every time I see Cha fail. When she passes, I'll make a commemorative tablet myself and give it to her," one officer was quoted as saying.

I think I am starting to dislike CNY..

HOW???

This used to be my favourite occasion! But as years passed by, this occasion just seemed to lost its appeal to me. And I am pretty sure I am going to dread it for the next couple of years.. Well, let me justify it by stating the reasons below...

1) Feeling the urge or being conformed to buy (reddish) clothes for CNY.

This is like a nightmare, because CNY is right after Christmas and naturally my pocket hasn't healed from the big hole from the ho-ho-ho occasion. Plus, though we are hit by recession, clothes are still very expensive these days. And as girls, you would definitely not want to 撞杉! Can you imagine some relative or worse still, stranger wearing the same clothes as you?! But thankfully, I still have yet to encounter such embarrassing situations! (;

2) Having to give ang pows to the elderly.

Now I start to understand why people often say it's good to be studying. Ever since I started working, I always felt obliged to give money to my parents/ grandmother. Besides giving monthly allowance, I gave my mama a $50 ang pow this year - only to be labeled as a "stingy daughter" by her. I feel so angry that I almost wanted to scold her vulgarities! Haha.. no la.. Kidding. CNY, how can scold bad words? But I did topped $38 for her later and she pretty much zipped her mouth after knowing it's $88. I am still relatively poor ok?

And as for my dad, I bought him a New Moon premium gift set which comprised of a Canned Abalone, Sharksfin, Pacific Clams and Asparagus. Think he was pretty happy with it.

ARGH, I did not have to do any of these last year.... ):

3) Feeling super shagged after 2 full days of traveling

This year, I drove from Toa Payoh to Havelock to Bras Basah to Upper Bukit Timah to East Coast and back to Toa Payoh on Day 1, and from Toa Payoh to Yio Chu Kang to Queenstown to Bukit Panjang to Jurong West to Upper Bukit Timah and back to Toa Payoh on Day 2.

I was so shagged that I knocked out on my bed the moment I reached home. Not sure if it's my age catching up with me, I do not seem to possess the energy that I had when I was young(er). But luckily, I applied for leave today so that I have ample rest to start work again.

Fyi, I am expecting more visiting/ gatherings on this Saturday and Sunday. *Oh no..*

4) Feasting feasting FEASTING!

I feel so fat now. With all the bak guas, pineapple tarts, love letters, chocolates, etc.. Not forgetting steamboats. Oh my god, I had 3 steamboats back to back this year! So sinful! Ok, time to lose weight!

I am posting this because he was freckles like me!

5) This is something I get this year. Topic: MARRIAGES.

Hello??? Felicia Ong. 22 23 years old. Just started working.... Marriage and kids are really the last thing on my mind. In fact, MONEY top my chart now!

To Ong Heng: Let me reiterate once more. The conversation with your dad is not funny. I forbid you from joining in this kind of conversations! And I am serious. I will run away, I tell you. It is so scary. I am not ready yet...... And it's scary to hear my female cousin who is 1 year older than me is planning to get married next year! Deep down, I still feel like I am a kid, I can't imagine people around my age getting married.

But then again, despite my complaints, CNY is definitely great for relatives to mingle and get together. And a great way to boost your income too! I shan't be a wet blanket, but here's wishing everyone a Happy CNY!

I tell ya, I have been addicted with many many many online shows lately. I made up for lost time and watched everything I missed in the past 6 months. Kudos to those who upload them online religiously. (:

Now, let me share with you my faves... In no order of preference,

1) Gossip Girl Season 2

This season is filled with juicy upper-east scandals yet again. Not forgetting to mention that there are really disgusting pairings though. Examples: Nate & Jenny, Nate & some MILF at the beginning of the season, etc... But I still adore the clothes that the leads wear!

2) Desperate Housewives Season 5

Well well, the producer decided to "fast forward" this season to 5 years later because he/ she admitted that Desperate Housewives has kinda become stagnant. And by skipping 5 years and slowly filling in the gaps in between, it's kinda like a breakthrough for the team. Hmm, not a bad move! But the poor used-to-be hot Gabby has become a totally unattractive auntie this season. But, Susan still manages to get the hottest guy in Wisteria Lane. Damn!

3) America's Next Top Model Cycle 11

Bimbo? Is that what you think? Haha, I think so too. But it's all the cat fights and bitchings that made it so popular! Though I absolutely loathe the way Tyra rattles on and on about her PAST modelling experience. Note, it's PAST with a capital P. Don't she get it? Stop basking on your past glory and move on!

Anyways, this cycle is rather special in that there was a tranny! Check him/ her out!

4) Boys Before Flower! which is the korean rendition of Meteor Garden.

This is so surprisingly nice, I tell you! Though I am guilty of watching Taiwanese rendition of Meteor Garden twice, the Korean remake triumphs it without a doubt!

HARPIE NEW YEAR!

HARPIE NEW YEAR everyone! Even though this is the 2nd day of the new year, my well wishes still goes out to all of you! :)

Anyways, some of my colleagues left the company on 31st Dec - new promotion awaiting my Executive Director, some went to further their studies and some simply decided to take a break. Wherever they may be, I wish them all the best in their future endeavorers..

Mary (in green) will be leaving us as well

And since the new ED declared half day off for us, the usual lunch gang ahead down to Relish, Cluny Court for pre-New Year lunch and also as a farewell lunch for Melvin. As a friend, I am happy for him since I know he will be happier elsewhere. But I will miss him, for I know that no one else appreciates Barbarella Chantel Thomas like him and I do. :)

By the way, all of us were in pink (or at least hints of pinks) to celebrate 2009!

Haa.. My belated christmas post! Coincidentally, "Last Christmas" is my favourite Christmas song! It's kinda pop and totally mambo-able.. :) Anyways, Christmas this year was GREAT! Love every single bit of it. From the buying of gifts, and receiving of gifts, hanging out with some girl pals, Christmas exchange in office, preparation of Christmas dinner for the cousins, and hanging out at colleague Melvin's house... blah blah blah.. I shall let the photos do the talking..

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION #1:

First up, Christmas breakfast with my team at Cova restaurant at Paragon on 23rd Dec. Apparently, Christmas has always been something big in Nielsen and my team has a yearly tradition of exchanging gifts. But the photos are with my boss. Let me see if she posts it up on facebook then I will post it here.

Well, the essence - I got a fcuk purse from boss, lip gloss from Yvonne, 2009 Prints diary from Wai Ling, Mango spaghetti top from Michelle, and a USB fan from Melvyn.. But in return I also searched high and low, painstakingly for their gifts, and the gifts ain't cheap either..

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION #2:

Dinner with the girls at Blue Basil, near the Paragon on 23rd Dec. Yes. I returned to Paragon again after my breakfast that very same morning.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION #3:

On Christmas eve itself, the whole Nielsen company was encouraged to dress up in red, green or white, or in all 3 colours. So, I dressed myself in red and white and my theme was "slutty santarina" Haha.. because my dress was a lil short, you see..

Anyways, we had some carolers going around the office singing us 4 Christmas songs. But alas, no "Last Christmas".

Just before the 4th song came to an end, we had 2 special guests making special appearance - Santa and Santarina! :) Though I had to admit that Santa looked kinda like a terrorist cos of his sunglasses. Check him out..

Fyi, Santa is Managing Director. He's super on can! I like! But poor thing, he was perspiring profusely in his suit!

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION #4:

A group of us stayed back for a while in office to have our very own little Christmas gathering in one of the company's focus group room. We ordered pizzas, chips and boozed in the office! Shiok! (And had yet another round of Christmas gift exchange!)

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION #5:

Right after lunch in the office, we cabbed down to Melvin's house to play his PS3. He has this game by the name of "Buzz" or something like that, and this game warrants 4 players in a gameshow setting. So there are many genres and the aim to to get as many points as you can and triumph as the winner. Haa.. It was so fun. I aced in the "Entertainment" genre. :)

Finally on Christmas day, the boyfriend and I cooked up a feast for my cousins. Well, technically, the boyfriend did. I was only in charged of quality control and was busy watching TV. Here's what the boyfriend whipped up!

Twilight was yawns BORING...

As the school hols was coming to an end, the boyfriend and I decided to bring Can Cheng aka mushroom head out to catch a movie. He chose "Twilight" and were ok with his decision after knowing that it is the number 1 hit in US box office...

However, we (meaning the boyfriend and I) were bored to tears in the cinema. It is a senseless teenager love story but with the element of Vampires and what not. But well, it is just my opinion. So if you happen to be a mega fan, my apologies! :) Anyways, the female lead was so fair in the beginning of the show that I thought she WAS the vamp instead. Haha..

Then after the show, we brought mushroom head for shopping... And I got a pair of white jeans from Giordano.. Haha.. Goes to show how NOT brand conscious I am... :) After 40% off, it only costs $36! And mushroom head got 2 polo tees from Cotton on for $30. Yay.. I am one step closer to finishing my CNY shopping..

Then, we went to Cafe Cartel for dinner. And we took some shots too!

Manager's lunch...

Right before Christmas, the senior managers in my team finally decided to treat us to their promotion lunch. (Btw, this treat was 3 or 4 months due!) So way before lunch time (i.e., 11.45am), we left office and made our way to a Korean BBQ restaurant at East Coast Park. It was my 2nd time at that restaurant, an I always felt that these Korean BBQ are highly overpriced.

Not much photos taken though, cos we are busy eating. The concept is somewhat similar to the Chang Restaurant at The Esplanade.

An inside joke to share. Right after lunch on Friday, the lunch khakis walked past the Christmas tree outside United Square and one of us, Melvyn aka small Mel got everyone to take a photo in front of the tree. So touristy, yes I know, but we took a picture anyhows..

Now here the joke. We took a photo using Michelle's and Melvin's aka big Mel's phone (note: there is a Melvin and a Melvyn among us). Then, Melvin started to send us the photo from his cellphone but the email subject reads "arrgh i closed my eye...retake plz...", and the following is the picture from Melvin's phone. FYI, big Mel is the tallest one.

Then minutes later, Michelle sent another photo and the email reads "U're saved, sweetie! Ta-dah!". Then, small Mel said to Michelle "Wow, how did you add the eyes in?"

.......................................................... HAHAHAHAHA. Everyone burst into laughter. Small mel did not realised that it was another picture taken from Michelle's phone, and was innocent to think that Michelle had superb photoshop skills! (:

Just as I am typing away, I am doing work from home... I contemplated about changing my facebook status to "Felicia is working..", cos my boss is in my facebook link. But heck, that's my entitlement, and it IS way after office hours already. ):

At this rate I am going, I am not confident that I can spend my Christmas holidays peacefully. My team mates still work from home despite being on MC and on leave. It's scary.

Worse still, the boyfriend's away for 14 days.. Will be back on 14th Dec.. I shall brave the storm myself!

Packing lunch during work totally led me into impulse shopping! Look what I've got...

It's ZA 2-way cake, aka foundation!

Not trying to advertise for ZA, but they have the best (& cheap) foundation around. Plus they always have the cutest looking limited edition foundation covers. It so happened that my current foundation is running low and I just wanted to try my luck at the nearby Watson's. Yay! I found their annual twin pack promotion!

Just take a look at this year's pinkified case! I knew I had to choose it when I first saw it. Other colours available were gold and silver, by the way.

On a separate note, while I packed lunch today, my lunch khakis/ colleagues who left office 1 hour earlier than me told me that they spotted Thomas Ong! Arghh!!! I missed him (physically missing him)! In fact, a few months ago, I found out from 8 days that he is staying at Jalan Bahagia area, which is my ex-house! I can't believe we once stayed so close to each other before. I even jokingly told the boyfriend I would do unthinkable things if I spotted him in the vicinity, like barging into his house and ....... nothing. Haa!

Speaking of which, though his musical play "野玫瑰"'s advertisements have been hitting the TV screens quite a lot lately, I have to admit that he looks quite gross and fat in it. *But I secretly want to watch it too.* Haha! Totally bimbotic, yes I know, thank you very much.

The Best Dinner of the Week

While mama's away the entire week, I survived on instant noodles, Old Chang Kee curry puff on weekday nights.. ): But luckily, Saturday came and the boyfriend and I went for japanese dinner at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. By the way, we brought Can Cheng along, since his PSLE was long over and deserve a treat!

Home Alone...

Well, mama was away for a week as she flew off to Jing Men (Taiwan) and Xiamen.. With my uncles, aunties, cousins and grandma, BUT without me.. ): Work's super busy, and from Monday to Thursday, I cabbed home. That could only mean one thing: I stayed in office beyond 9pm.. I think it is already taking a toll on my health, given that I dinnered at 10+ every night, and missed all my fave dramas.. ):

The first few days without Mama was bad.. It was the first time I think she left home for so long, without me. I did not had time to do the laundry at all. Instead, I merely swept and mopped the floor, fed my doggies and cleared their poo poo everyday..

Can you imagine life without Mama? That equates to instant noodles every night. I am so poor thing, I tell ya... I am about to cry at myself.. Haha.. But thankfully, I had the boyfriend and cousins to accompany me during the weekends! (: *Yay-ness*

Well well, before I knew it, Mama and the rest are back! Hurried down to airport on Friday evening to picked my mama and granny up (perfect excuse to leave office earlier, at around 7pm?) And since this trip was to visit my late-grandfather's hometown in Jing Men, you can so imagine that a lot of their stuff brought back are local delights. Furthermore, everything is Xia Men is like RMB10. Could just imagine the damage done! Haha..

Wedding at Carlton's

Sorry, not Halloween post yet. Might just scrap it since it was like eons ago. Anyways, for the first time in months, I managed to leave office at 5.40pm on a Tuesday evening and was stunned because I saw sunlight when I stepped out of office (it's unusual for me, fyi) - all in the name of a relative's wedding dinner.

Reached home, bathed, and drove down to Carlton Hotel. The invitation wrote reception started at 7 and everyone's to be seated at 7.30. But well, you know the typical chinese wedding dinner does not go by that. I was there at 7.45 and everyone is still at the reception area. And first dish is only served at 8.40!!

Food's not exactly that great, though the restaurant was supposedly "highly acclaimed" to be dishing out fabulous food. Bleah...

That's all the photos I took. No wedding couple? Yeah, that's right. I amuse myself sometimes too. The main reason for that is because I am not particularly close to the newly weds, and Von and I were busy talking. And because I was pissed for the second half of the dinner.

And for some reason, cousin Robin decided to side with another cousin of mine, Eve, when he obviously was pissed off with her right before we arrived at the restaurant for hanging up on him previously. But apparently, the moment he arrived, he flocked to her table and it was as if though nothing happened. When dinner ended, he came over to say (say is an understatement) Von and I are making a big fuss of everything. HELLO!! Look who's talking!!

The thing is I have ZERO respect for people who have graduated 2 years ago from some crappy university and still is a bummer because of bad working attitude ? (I don't know) and still get to drive around in a mini cooper. And wants to retire by 30 or 35?? And talk bad about people and isolate herself from everyone else, and still get support from cousin Robin. What did Von and I do to deserve that? We were just being supportive cousins to Robin and be in every part of his life. Life's unfair, yeah! I will just have to deal with it.

I know I am ranting, but having this sort of relative just irks me.

Well well well, look which show is back in town!?

It's the highly acclaimed (at least to me!) Season 2 of GOSSIP GIRL! This season is as good, if not better than Season 1. For guys out there who don't have a clue of what I am getting at, I can so totally understand, cos it's like asking me to watch Smallville? So, don't bother! But ladies, if you have no idea, you are totally missing out on the scandalous and juicy storyline..

Seriously, I am a big fan of "Desperate Housewives", but now I can't decide whether I like "Gossip Girl" or the former more. They are equally good, and the difference is probably the ages of the characters. One is geared towards the "older" crowd while the other is obviously targeting at the teens or at least, young working adults..

OR ...

ARGH!! I LOVE BOTH!

Back to the show, I don't exactly have any favourite character, because the character is "developed" in such a way that each of them has its pluses and minuses. For instance, even the (arguably) richest guy (Chuck Bass) has issues like lack of family warmth, etc.. But one thing though, I think this girl is extremely gorgeous! DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!! Blair played by Leighton Marissa Claire Meester. (FYI, she is born in 1986, just like Megan Fox. Damn!)

BBQ with the GIPs..

On the eve of Deepavali, the GIPs met up at East Coast Park for a small get together. We mingled and chatted at BBQ Pit 10C! It was such a joy to see them, though we still see each other in office everyday. But, things are kinda different in office, because we work in different teams and are sitted pretty far away from each other.

In any case, the boyfriend and I (yes, I brought him there :)) arrived at 6.30pm sharp but were greeted by strangers and a cat occupying our pre-booked BBQ pit.

It refused to leave until much later...

Then, while waiting for the others to arrive, the boyfriend started to create his favourite charcoal formation...

Late post, again. My bad!

Well, PPG and the other girlfriends celebrated Buttercup's 22nd at a Korean Restaurant, located at the Esplanade. Well, not exactly cheap, but I guess it's fine once in a while! It was the BBQ Korean restaurant concept, very similar to the one located at East Coast, which I dined in with the cousins a few months back!

Not sure if you guys out there having been catching THE NOOSE. Yeah.. it's the spoofed rendition of THE NEWS.

FYI, I was googling for the poster of The Noose, and I realised that this (rope)...

... is actually called the noose. Haha.. Now I know... :)

Anyway, as alcheapo as the production may seem, and as lousy the critics by 8 days may be, I still heart The Noose. It's hilarious!! Totally rocked my panties!

Michelle Chong plays all my favourite characters - from bimbotic anchorwoman Adrianna Wow to rich tai tai to (my personal favourite) SPG Babarella Chanel Thomas/ Babarella Beckham Posh. She is so multi-talented, I tell you. Her accents are so distinct and all characters played by her are so convincingly funny!

In the latest episode, SPG Babarella was the weatherwoman, and she went on to say things like.. the weather will be hot but her friends and her won't be taking their sarongs off so they can undress very quickly to buy beach volleyball in their bikinis.. and will only rain at her favourite place, Orchard Towers... and.. that somewhere (can't remember) will Xiaxue in the Dawn.. and.. she is a famous celebrity bloggers (yes, bloggers with a "s"). Babarella sucked at plural and singular kinda stuff..

Now you know my threshold for humour is really really low.. Haha..

I Spent my Hari Raya Puasa at...

Yes, you guessed it! Kusu Island! Initially, I thought who would be in their right sense of mind to travel to an island to see tortoises? Apparently, I was very wrong.. (I have pictures to prove..) But well, my Malaysian relatives took a coach and spent almost 1 day on the roads to visit Singapore. I must definitely play host and bring them around on my day off right?

And so, I woke up at 8am in the morning, and we all traveled to Marina South pier to board the ferry. To my amazement, the 2-way ferry ticket cost $16 per person! Gosh... but still, many Singaporeans (and Malaysians, I presume) flocked to the tortoise-inhabited island.

But then again, amongst all the people, I saw some old folks in their twilight years, carrying incense and were very determined to get across the island to pray. This is despite a few being immobile. I felt a little sad for them because it must be tough for them to travel at their ages, but also happy that they had such strong faith in their belief. Mixed feelings, I know..

I am going to join the smelly people in public transport and squeeze myself to work from tomorrow onwards..

Reason being my mama needs the car more than I do, and my work place is just 1 MRT station away. And since our knock-off times are so different. So, she will be driving to her work place herself. No more chauffeuring! But the implication is that I would have to carry my laptop through and fro. My only consolation: ~~the good-lookers in the train~~ I will be a more patient person, with all the reduced time behind the steering wheels..

The Aftermath...

The Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix was here and gone so quickly! Though I must admit that Singapore's nights came to live during those 3 amazing days!

Apart from the common hot topics like how Massa screwed up and Räikkönen crashed his car towards the end of the race, I was more interested in the trivia that happened.

In fact, there was one part when a F1 driver tried to throw his cap to the spectator crowd, but landed up in the drain/ river instead. And it was really funny to hear the commentator say "It is now 45 minutes past 8 in the evening in Singapore, and boy, the temperature is 28 deg cel." And did you catch the stupid Singtel Grid girls cheering on the racers at the very end? One word for the girls.. "LOSER!" (with a capital L!)

Acutally, I fell asleep while watching F1, cos I had been working as an interviewer at the airport transit area from 10am to 5pm on my precious Sunday. That was the reason why. But those little events made me "wake up a little" while I was dozing on my couch.

But the whole F1 thingy evoked my memory where PPG and I, together with 2 other project mates did a project on the Singapore F1 grand prix, and we came up with this beautiful poster..

Free Movie Screening

Last Friday after work, I met up with my beloved GIPs to catch a free movie screening outside the open field of National Museum. We caught "Westside Story" which was supposed to be a musical. Well, to be honest, I was not really thrilled to watch it, partly because they spoke in weird accents (the movie was set in 1940s/50s/60s?, mind you!)

I had such a tiring work week and I just had to get away from work so I rushed off the office at 7.15pm to join them! I must say, I am indeed surprised to see so many people turn up. I thought the response was going to be luke warm, especially when F1 practise round was just a stone throw away!

The "Evil" Twins Birthday

Yep! I backlogged again. What's new? My weekends are too precious that I don't wanna spend time on blogging. I just wanna sleep my weekend away.. Haa.. I guess I am just lazy.

Well, well, the gang celebrated the twins' (K1 & K2) belated birthday on last Saturday at a Karaoke place near Chinatown/ Central. It was a belated celebration because the birthday boys themselves had to work on their birthdays, and could only meet up on last Saturday.

We met at 10pm, which meant that it was my 2nd late night out in a row, and there goes my beauty sleep again!

The cousins got the boys a Mont Blanc cigarette case holder and a pair of Raoul cufflings each. It's nice because I chose it. Haa.

Zouky Friday!

It was a TGIF Friday for me last week! Despite leaving the office at 7.45pm (which is already a norm), I still felt happy. That's because the girls were heading down to Zouk to celebrate Ivy's 22nd! It was great seeing them cos I MIA-ed ever since work started. FYI, work is scarily busy!

In any case, we Shiyou and I met at 9pm as I wanted dinner, and the rest did not come until 10.45pm. But it was a good catch up with my dearest youyou. It's always good to know your friends' latest news and updates.

*Hint: Misss WS, you know what to do, huh? Don't hide in the jungle and go pa tor everyday*

And finally, I found a use to my ~~fugly~~ useful RED Visa NOW debit card! It entitled me to free entry and one free drink to Zouk on Friday! While the rest paid $28 to get in. YEAH!! Here're the photos of the night, btw.

Kim Keat is a Weird Neighbourhood!

Just on last Saturday, I was trying to sleep in late due to my sleep deficit as a result of my hectic work, I got woken up. Twice, some more. First time was to send my mama to work at 8am. Then, after sending mama to work and returning to my comfy bed for more sleep. I got woken up again. This time at 11.30am...

So who is the joker who knocked on my door? --> My neighbours!

My neighbours from the 7th and 8th floors directly under my unit came knocking on my door! And when I opened the door in my Hello Kitty PJs (*blush blush*), they first apologized for waking me up. I felt like a lazy bum immediately, especially when the neighbours' kids were in front of my doorstep with their mums.

So, I quickly explained saying that I worked late the night before hence the sleep in (which was obviously a lie, as I was out drinking the night before).

Well, that's not the point. The point is, there were used sanitary pads on their air-con units and window latches and they went up to find the culprit! Wtf! Me? Throwing pads out of the window? No way! I only threw sweet wrappers down.. Haha.. Kidding, but I gotta admit that I did spit saliva down from my grandma's 17th floor flat when I was young! Haha.. (:

But back to my neighbours, how on earth can something fall from 12th floor and reach 7th and 8th floor? It is technically impossible. Only 9th floor is capable of doing that!

In any case, when they finally left, I could not get back to sleep anymore. There goes my beauty sleep..

This was how my Weekend Whizzed by..

Firstly, work is busy and time really crawls during week days. In fact, my office hour is definitely way past the hours stated in the contract and I get no OT pay! Argh.. Basically, my typical week is little sleep, a lot of work, a little sleep, and it goes on and on.. I suffer from sleep deficit man, given my love for sleeping!

Anyway, yesterday was Mooncake festival and my team had a mini mooncake party in office on Friday! It was inevitably a good break from the hectic work. Everyone volunteered to bring mooncakes, pomelos and chinese tea. Well, I offered to bring my mama's prized possession - chinese tea pot and cups set.

Right after work, I headed down town to meet the boyfriend for dinner.. But the 2 ERP gantries cost me $4! And the worse part is that the 2 gantries were only 100m apart. Damn. Shit LTA. ):

Luckily, the dinner at Soup Spoon made my trip worthwhile! Yums! I declare Soup Spoon my new found love!

Hello weekend!

Then on Saturday, the boyfriend and I decided to do something healthy for a change, and we attempted to conquer HSBC Tree Top Walk. Note here that the key word is attempted. Read on to find out why...

Well, I said we attempted to climb the Tree Top Walk because we were there at 4.45pm, but we realised that the Tree Top Walk closes at 5pm! Haa.. And since it was 2.4km away from where we started to the foot of the Tree Top Walk, it is technically impossible for us to do the climb.

Haha.. Good for me, because I have fear for heights. But the boyfriend and his mum is pretty determined to go there again one of these days. So wish me luck..

In any case, the boyfriend and I went to Thomson Road (since it was just around the corner) for prata. However, after a fruitless Prata hunt, we went to Jalan Kayu for good prata instead.

Shocking News

Not sure if you guys know it already, Lee Uhn who starred as funny & noble Hwang Min Yeop in Korean TV soap Coffee Prince had passed away on 21 August 2008. That's about 3 weeks ago! Apparently, he was on his way home early in the morning of August 21, 2008. He was riding a motorcycle and ran into the guardrail of the overpass, and is said to have died almost immediately. *Gosh*

I read this piece of outdated news on the ever-gossipy 晚报 tonight, and I could not believe it. He is only 27 years old! That is like just 5 years older than me?!?! To all bikers out there: please ride with care (and yes, I am referring to you, Mr Koh. Please take good care of my WeiShi on the road!)

My Second Time Flying...

Yes.. Right after 2 months, I was up again, on the Singapore Flyer. This time round, I did not went up with the boyfriend. Instead, I went there with my colleagues. It happened right after the company event at Asian Civilisation Museum (as mentioned in my previous post).

It was boring, knowing what to expect and being trapped in the capsule for 30 minutes. But I supposed the different company did help in bringing in the fun. Besides, we occupied the entire capsule and we were free to do stupid things that I would not usually do. Haa..

After our Singapore Flyer ride, we made our way to the restaurant beneath, as the company has booked a dinner buffet for us! Yeah! Nielsen, bansai!

We ate at this restaurant called O'Leary's and it has a very nice decor, with very well trained waiters and waitresses! *Thanks Ernest, for helping us safeguard our possessions when we were in the Flyer*

After a sumptuous dinner, some of us headed down to Ice Cold Beer at SMU, for another round of ice cold beer. The booze there are really cheap! The concept of having a bar in campus is so cool, but I doubt NTU will EVER do that.

Phew, we really accomplished a lot all in a day.

That kinda wrapped up my very busy Friday night. It's fun! I love this sort of chill out sessions and gatherings. But happy times passes very quickly. Before I know it, it's MONDAY again. Urgh.. I shall begin the whole process and I shall start by getting out of bed early tomorrow!

Nielsen Company Event

It seemed like all my posts lately all revolved around Nielsen. That is because I spent most of my time in office, doing work or hanging around with colleagues. But I will meet up with my cousins and girlfriends soon, I promise! It is just that I had been very busy these 2 weeks...

Anyways, we had a company event at Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM), and the GIP were requested to put up a skit/show/song/performance/whatever for 15 minutes. Oh no! This spells "humiliation" and "embarrassment" for the GIP!

Gabriel was super enthusiastic about the entire thing, and he started choreographing and coming up with props for the skit. I assisted in getting tokens of appreciation and everyone cooperated and helped in every way we could. (: I must say Gabriel is really experienced in things like that, guess it helped as he was from the Drama club from his JC.

In the end, we did a mini skit, and here are some of the behind the scenes shots.

It was great fun doing the skit and being part of GIP. It wrapped up the entire experience we had, and I was definitely happy to have forged a strong bond with everyone.. And it was great to know the entire audience laughing and enjoying the performance. I am pretty sure the GIP is "famous" in office now. Haa..
